The Viewing Room
Welcome to Orphan Studios Entertainment.  We have established the new site design to keep you updated on the progress of ongoing projects.

Why the changes?

Since 1992, I have witnessed the evolution from VHS to Digital to HD and now 3D is on the horizon.  There has also been a dramatic shift on the human resource side.  As the tools became more affordable we, the professional video producer, began to face increased saturation of providers in the market and we all know when there is too much supply, price falls.  Technology is often a disrupter in any field.  Webmasters went through it as well.  Software became more intuitive and did all the coding for you.  Wordpress is a great example.

As a result it become more and more of a challenge to build a studio based on “For Hire” services.  Now anyone with a little creativity and a phone can produce effective video and put their limited resources elsewhere.  Due to this pricing pressure it forced more and more “production companies” to become 1 and 2 man shops.  With this new environment of lower budgets came lower productions values which ran counter to the “more for less” evolution process.  TV’s are a great example of this point.  They are internet capable, 3D ready, LED, and flat but cost the same as the big box big screens of the 90′s.  This further exacerbates the situation because producers are no longer in an environment to constantly upgrade their skills. We are caught in  ”this is all you get for your budget” death spiral.  As a result, any client that wanted that ESPN opening has nowhere to turn because all the professional producers have been starved out.  The highly-skilled editor is now a niche purveyor, like a glass blower.

So What Does This Mean for You?

Orphan Studios no longer accepts “For Hire” assignments.  However, we are still looking for cinematographers and editors.  Feel free to contact us about any project you see in progress on this site.  We now produce and monetize our own projects.  This has re-established an environment to develop our production and story-telling skills.  You will be compensated for any project we bring you on board for, but understand the bar is rising and the cost/pay is falling.  The $30-$75 and more per hour positions in our field as a whole has begun to evaporate.  But if working towards that salaried 9-5 position doing what

you love appeals to you give us call.  We all have to put our hard hats on now. Each project has its own blog so you can follow along with the project of your choosing.  Thanks for stopping by.
